History Of Kumbakarai Waterfalls 📜

In the first place, the waterfall is available all the time, even in the British Government. In 1942, Chellum Iyer from Periyakulam, who is a hotel businessman, thought of making the waterfalls open for the public. He wanted to develop the Kumbakarai waterfalls similar to the Courtallam and then asked permission from the British Government and, they approved. After that, Chellum Iyer, single-handedly began the process of making steps, shaping the falls and much more in the falls with his own money. Finally, he made it what he thought of initially. Now, Kumbakarai falls maintained by the Kodaikanal Forest Department.

The Renovation works for this decade is comes multiple times. In the 2013 – 2014 period, with the help of tourism collector Ms Meena, IAS, the renovation work has begun covering the steps reword, making fence over the bath place for fairly ₹44Lakhs. After that in early 2017, with the help of DR.V.Ranganathan I.F.S, the next phase of renovation work begun in this decade.

To keep the waterfall safe, and pollution-free, there are few restrictions when you go to the Kumbakarai falls.

  • One shouldn’t go to the restricted forest area.
  • No Soap or Shampoo allowed in the falls while bathing since they’re harmful to animals.
  • They recommended wearing 3/4th or lower pants while bathing for adult men.
  • As like in all tourist places, smoking is not possible.
  • Washing clothes after bathing also not recommended.
