As we all know, the third wave of Omicron almost started hitting India. In light of that, the Government made many restrictions around Tamilnadu. However, most of the restrictions are relaxed now as Covid cases are in control all over TN. I’m sharing all the details in this blog. Here you can find all your questions answered regarding travel restrictions in Tamilnadu.

From Feb 1

Night curfews will be removed. Also, Temple restrictions were discontinued.

Restrictions Imposed To Stop Spreading New Mutation OMICRON in 2022

Pongal Restrictions:

All the temples will be closed from 14th Jan to 18th Jan.

Night Curfew:

From Jan 6, 2022, 10 PM to 5 AM there is strict lockdown announced.

Hotel Restrictions:

With 50% seating capacity, hotels can be open up to 10 PM.

Cinemas Restrictions:

Only 50% of the seating capacity is available.

School/Colleges Restrictions:

New: School/Colleges will be open from Feb 1 in Tamilnadu.

Up to the 9th standard, there are no physical classes available. From 10th to 12th schools will be open as usual, so that they can easily be vaccinated.

Except for Medical colleges, all other colleges are closed until 31st Jan as leave to utilize these days for upcoming exams. Exams may be online or offline there are no official announcements regarding that.

Sunday Restrictions:

Jan 9 and 16 of 2022, will be full lockdown in fear of the new covid mutations.

Bus and Metro trains remain shut.

Parcel services are available in hotels from 7 AM to 10 PM.

What are Available During Night Curfew and Sunday Lockdown?

  • Inter state bus facilities are available but everyone should follow the covid protocals and the bus employees should be fully vaccinated.
  • Inttrastate bus facilities available with 50% seating capacity.
  • All essentials like Milk, Goods vehicles, Ambulance, Newspaper, Petrol Bunks can operate normally.

Beaches Restrictions:

Only walking and exercise are allowed on all Tamil Nadu beaches.

Temples Restrictions:

Friday, Saturday, and Sundays all temples will be closed.

Hill Stations Restrictions:

There are no restrictions to travel and stay in any hill station in Tamilnadu. However, you should be fully vaccinated and follow covid protocols all the time during the journey.

Parks Restrictions:

Amusements and Entertainment Parks will be closed from Jan 6th, 2022.

Waterfalls Restrictions:

There are no restrictions imposed on any waterfalls in Tamilnadu. However, before visiting please confirm once as the restrictions may change based on the number of visitors.

New Year Restrictions in Tamilnadu

All Tamilnadu

All beaches in Tamilnadu are closed on Dec 31st Eve. So, no New year celebrations on beaches for the 2nd straight year.

New Year celebrations on any villas, terrace, or in any public place are restricted.

You can stay in any resort but they should not conduct any celebrations for Ney Year.

Music Party, DJ, all other related functions should not be conducted.

Hotels, Restaurants can function up to 11 PM.

Chennai

From Dec 31st, 12 AM to Jan 1st, 5 AM all vehicles are banned except the essential vehicles.

Kamarajar, R.K, Rajaji, Anna, G.S.T roads will be closed in light of covid fear.

Bike stunts are strictly punishable.

Marina, Besant Nagar, Neelangarai, and all ECR beaches are closed from 9 PM, Dec 31st. And driving on beach roads is also blocked.

Puducherry (Pondy)

No restrictions in the state for the new year. Wine shops are to be closed on Dec 31st from 10 PM onwards.

    • Yeah, that is also the same category as Ooty, Yercaud. It is open for TN people, and no need to carry anything. But It’s good to be vaccinated yourself. Other state people must have RT-PCR and be fully vaccinated.

    We are in ooty and planning to go to the trek tomorrow. So if you have any info kindly share.
    By the way rtpcr or epass is not required for mudumalai or ooty surrounding places.

    • Yes, as we mentioned in this blog, an e-pass is not required in Nilgiris. For Velliangiri Hills trekking, it’s allowed on seasonal time only. April, May, Nov and Dec are the seasonal time. I hope it’s not allowed now.

Myself kishaloy from kolkata ,west bengal ….going to travel ooty on october 29th to Nov 3rd…now i would like to know that what are the restrictions are applicable there….me and my 3 family members are full vaccineted….and after that we are also going to mysore and then Bengaluru …so what are the restrictions are also there …please let me know regarding this

    • It’s glad to hear that you’ve taken two doses of the vaccine. In the first place, for Nov 29th, it’s too early to judge the restrictions. Let’s pray that 3rd wave won’t spoil our mood at that time. Currently, all the places are open. And we hope most of the tourist places remains unlocked for everyone at that time as well. On the positive side, you all already completed Two doses. Even if there are restrictions on that time, there are more possibilities for you to explore all the places as you’re fully vaccinated.

      • Myself with family is planning to visit Ooty on start of December 2021. We all are fully vaccinated. Is there any other requirements are there such as e-pass or RT-PCR test report.
        Just wanted to ensure if we can enjoy holiday in Ooty if we are fully vaccinated.

    • Yes, you can travel. As of now, no restrictions. But be careful as rainfall is high nowadays. Also, being vaccinated is good for everyone.

  5. Hi, Im from Maharashtra and am planning a trip to Pondicherry via Chennai (ie train upto Chennai then car to Pdy, and while return same)
    1. Do I need to get the TN Epass?
    2. For Epass they are asking for Residence in TN, but my stay is in PDY so what should I write?
    3. Do I have to self quarantine?
    I tried calling so many tourism office helplines of TN to clarify the same, no one is helping. Where can i get travel related help?

      For train traveling, you don’t need an E-Pass but you must be fully vaccinated to come out to any public places in TN.

      For Air traveling only, you’ll need to quarantine and need an E-Pass as of now.

    • Hi, As of now, no restrictions to travel inside TN except for Sundays and all-day 10 PM to 5 AM. But you should be fully vaccinated to go anywhere. But we’re not sure about Jan 28,22 as the covid raising cases are a major concern. So the govt may impose a new ban after Pongal (Jan 15). We’ll keep all the details updated here.   8. We plan to travel from Bangalore to Ooty 1st week of March 2022 by Road in our own vehicle. All are fully vaccinated, is rtpcr and e- registration required.
