About Guna Caves
Guna Caves is a momentous sightseeing place in Kodaikanal which is famous for its 3 Pillar-type Rocks🗿. Anyone wishing to enter the caves should grab two rocks and lower themselves into the vertical path formed by the third rock. 13 Adults have died😢 while trying to enter the Caves. Devils Kitchen is the original name of this place. After the Blockbuster movie from Kamal Hassan titled Guna, this place is frequently called Guna Caves by the tourists, as this movie developed under these Caves.
How did the Name Come? – A Deep Dive into History!
Let’s rewind a bit!
In the first place, the rocks protrude from the face of the cliff, so that they named Pillar-Shaped Rocks.
Shola trees🌲 and lush green grasses🌿 cover the cliffs.
The Gnarled Shola trees(Old Trees) and their spread roots add an impression to the tourists.
Being said that, In 1821, An American B.S Ward initially found this place initially.
In light of him and their analysis, they believed that the Pandavas were lived here and used this place as a Kitchen.
Later on, this place called Devil’s Kitchen🍳. In the early 1900s, there are few trekkers and hikers used to go into the deep of the cave.
In 1991, Kamal Hassan starring Guna movie🎥 developed in the Devils’ Kitchen.
After the film went blockbuster🎆, people started visiting the place and from time to time they call this place Guna Caves.
As an effect of this, few tourists tried to enter the caves and failed to make it. So far, we’ve lost almost 16 bodies in this cave. With this in mind, the govt made an iron fence afar from the actual cave.
Now tourists can view the place afar.
The Secret of the Name Devils Kitchen
As we have seen above, the name Kitchen comes from Pandavas.
But, where does the name Devil comes from, no answers for that?
People assume that is because of the dark area with no light inside the cave. And that is home to many small animals and especially for bats.
Darkness and bats made people believe there was a devil.
Guna Cave – The Devil’s Kitchen
All things considered above, Pandavas Kitchen and Bat, Darkness of the Caves gained a name for Devils Kitchen. After the steller response to the Guna movie in 1991, tourists gathered here and they renamed the place Guna Caves. Furthermore, The government also considered the tourists’ interest and changed the name to Guna Caves.
Guna Caves Accident
In 2012, A 21-year-old adult slipped into the caves and, he’s no more with us. The fire service and police department took action to rescue the body but end up with no positive. Similarly, there are almost 16 known people who slipped and, they couldn’t make it.

Bring your camera. Always it’s advisable to first enjoy the place, Gnarled Shola trees root and fresh air out there. Enjoy 😎 the visuals in the eyes first and then take photos. On the other hand, it is advisable to sit back and relax😌 peacefully by watching the people around you.

Entry ticket is as low as ₹10 and ₹20 for the camera.
government must not allow people to commit suicide in the cave.it must be broken with dynamite and a quarry must be made there.
